The 2010 World Car Awards closed today at the 2010 New York Auto Show. Taking home the prestigious award for 2010 World Car of the Year was the Volkswagen Polo beating out the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Toyota Prius. Volkswagen took the majority vote of the 59 World Car jurors after they test drove the 30 entries from July 2009-January 2010. Walter de Silva, head of design Volkswagen Group, attributes this success to the Polo’s “uncomplicated, unique and timeless design plus its high efficiency”. This is Volkswagen’s second triumph in this category with the success of the Volkswagen Golf as last year’s World Car of the Year.

At the New York International Auto Show in Manhattan today the Volkswagen Polo has been declared the 2010 World Car of the Year. Merit, value, safety, environment, significance and emotional appeal are the criterias for the World Car of the Year. Already in 2009, a Volkswagen model ranked the highest: the Golf. This year the top three contenders for World Car of the Year title were, in alphabetical order, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Toyota Prius and the Volkswagen Polo.

Now in their seventh year, the annual World Car awards have become one of the world’s most prestigious, credible and significant programs of its kind. The majority of the 59 World Car jurors from 25 countries throughout the world chose the Polo from 30 entries. Each juror drives and evaluates new vehicles on a regular basis as part of their on-going full-time professional work. Through their respective outlets they collectively reach an audience of many millions worldwide.

The Ford Edge

Okay, we have to admit that when we first heard of this award, we chuckled a bit to ourselves. Pet Safe Vehicle of the Year, really? No one ever really thinks about the safety of their pets when choosing their vehicle except for maybe Bark Buckle UP’s founder Pet Safety Lady, Christina Selter.
"Most people don’t think about it, but in only a 35 mph accident with a 60-pound pet it becomes a 2,700-pound projectile. This will injure the pet, passengers, driver or the pet may escape the vehicle and cause a second accident or become agitated and bite the first responder that is on scene doing their job," stated Selter.
With this in mind, Selter announced this year’s Pet Safe Vehicle of the Year, the Ford Edge. The award was accepted by Brett Burin, Ford Edge Marketing Manager.
"We look ahead with excitement this summer to the arrival of the new 2011 Edge, which adds even more revolutionary technology and class-leading performance. We still think it is a little silly, but, hey, if it is grand enough to be done at the 2010 New York Auto Show then it has our attention and little Fido’s attention too.

Bark Buckle UP – the recognized leader and experts for pet travel safety – awarded the Pet Safe Choice Vehicle Awards "TOP DOG" today at the 2010 New York International Auto Show. Ford received four out of the top ten honors for 2010 Pet Safe Vehicles of Choice List, including the Ford Transit Connect, Edge and Flex and the Lincoln MKT.

Chevy Equinox is the compaq crossover that comfortable fits 5 passengers and reflects Chevrolet Chevy Equinox outstanding quality in design, precision and utility capability. Mitsubishi Endeavor
The Mitsubishi Endeavor is a mid-size crossover SUV built by Mitsubishi Motors at their manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois. Based on the PS platform, it was the first vehicle built under Mitsubishi's "Project America", a program aimed at introducing vehicles for North America without having to compromise to accommodate other export markets.
Its design origins can be traced back to the Mitsubishi SSU which debuted at the 1999 North American International Auto Show, although the Endeavor does not share the concept's mechanical underpinnings. The prototype was powered by a 310 PS version of the 6A13TT 2.5 L twin-turbo V6, which directed the power to a full-time all wheel drive system through its INVECS-II five-speed semi-automatic transmission and AYC. When the Endeavor debuted, it used the 6G75 3.8 L V6 offering 215 hp (improved to 225 hp in 2004) and 250 ft·lbf, mated to a four-speed semi-automatic transmission with an optional all wheel drive system that splits the torque 50/50 by default.
The Endeavor's performance in the marketplace has to date failed to meet Mitsubishi's expectations. On its release in March 2003 the company aimed for 80,000 annual sales but achieved only 32,054 by the end of its debut year. It received a mild restyle for the 2006 model year, but has received no significant changes yet in its lifetime.

The Mitsubishi Raider PickUp Truck
is a pickup truck from Mitsubishi Motors that debuted in the fall of 2005 as a 2006 model for the United States market and is based on the Dodge Dakota. The Raider filled the gap in the Mitsubishi lineup since the discontinuation of the Mighty Max in 1996. The Raider is built in the United States by DaimlerChrysler. Engine choices included a 4.7 L PowerTech V8 making 230 hp and 290 ft·lbf and a 3.7 L PowerTech V6 which produced 210 hp. It is also Mitsubishi's first V8 engine for North America.

Recently a concept truck was rebadged as the Street Raider and designed by Mitsubishi's California design studio. It first appeared at the 2005 SEMA automotive show and since then has been shown at various automotive shows around the United States. It includes 22 inch custom wheels, custom dual exhaust, and a lowered stance among other features not found on a stock Raider. The Street Raider carries a mooted price tag of $60,000, although there are no current plans to sell it.

History Mini Cooper

Sir Alec Issigonis' original Mini of 1959 set new standards in design and engineering. Issigonis produced his masterpiece as an answer to the European fuel crisis of the late 1950s. Issigonis was challenged to produce a car four feet wide by four feet high and 10 feet long that would seat four adults in comfort and take their luggage to boot.

An automotive icon, his design lasted decades in virtually original form. His revolutionary concept of a transverse engine with submounted transmission allowed compact external dimensions with maximum interior space. Combining economical transport, character and fun, Mini became a car for everyone, from celebrity to the everyday person in the street

The front‑wheel drive, wheel‑at-each‑corner design was not only space-efficient, but was soon to prove extremely roadworthy. The Mini Cooper

Issigonis‘ friend John Cooper, owner of the Cooper Car Company and designer and builder of Formula One and rally cars, saw the potential of the Mini for competition. Issigonis was initially reluctant to see the Mini in the role of a performance car, but after John Cooper appealed to BMC management, the two men collaborated to create the Mini Cooper, a nimble, economical and inexpensive car. The Austin Mini Cooper and Morris Mini Cooper debuted in 1961.
The original 848 cc engine from the Morris Mini-Minor was increased to 997 cc, boosting power from 34 bhp to 55 bhp (25 to 41 kW).The car featured a racing-tuned engine, twin SU carburettors, a closer-ratio gearbox and front disc brakes, uncommon at the time in a small car. One thousand units of this version were commissioned by management, intended for and designed to meet the homologation rules of Group 2 rally racing. The 997 cc engine was replaced by a shorter stroke 998 cc unit in 1964.

The Mini Cooper is a tiny little car that is great on gas, handles like a sports car, fits four adults and is cute to look at.

Why was the Mini Cooper Developed and Manufactured?
While many countries around the globe were faced with a series of fuel shortages in the 1950s, the British Motor Company (BMC) decided that it was it time to design and build a gas conscious vehicle than could appeal to the masses. Thus, Lord Nuffield engaged designer Sir Alec Issigonis with the task of creating a “microcar” that would be excellent on gas while at the same time able to compete with the other companies’ small vehicles that had already hit the automotive industry.

What was the Precursor to the Mini Cooper?
The Mini Cooper Classic Cars was launched on August 26, 1959 sporting room for four adults, gas economy, and the bonus feature of handling like a sports car. This model was not, however, the actual Mini Cooper which subsequently debuted later in 1962.

How did the Mini finally become Popular?
The first person to give credence to the sales of the Mini was Queen Elizabeth. Once she was seen driving the car and subsequently various celebrities owning the vehicle, the population at large had to have the car.

What Prompted the Launch of the Mini Cooper?
John Cooper was a designer who built cars that won Formula One championships. As a result, he approached BMC about the possibility of a joint venture between his racing engine and the Classic Mini. The Mini Cooper was born in 1961 and launched to the public in 1962.

How Successful was the Mini Cooper?
The new revolutionary model of vehicle was so successful that it overtook the Monte Carlo Rally. Coupled with the original benefits of the Mini and now the consistent, outstanding race performances, the Mini Cooper was set to become hugely popular.

The first generation of the car, initially known as the Colt Galant, was released in December 1969. The nameplate was sufficiently highly regarded in Japan for it to be resurrected for the 1990 Mitsubishi GTO coupé.
A second coupé was introduced in 1971, the Galant FTO. Powered by the 4G41 1.4 L engine, it too would leave a legacy for the company to return to in the 1990s with the Mitsubishi FTO.
